Challenge

High energy consumption during oil filtration increases the CO₂ footprint Sustainable oil filtration requires careful use of resources

High differential pressures at the filter element increase energy consumption in machines and vehicles, leading to increased emissions. Frequent filter changes, for example due to clogging or filter breakage, also lead to avoidable additional consumption of resources.

Optimicron® is becoming SUSTAINMICRON®—the transition to the new element generation

SUSTAINMICRON® replaces Optimicron®, Optimicron® Pulse & Stat-Free®.

Our new SUSTAINMICRON® filter element prevents electrostatic discharges (ESD) and offers high bending stability and change stability. With an additional reduction in differential pressure of up to 30%, it combines three elements in one and will replace Optimicron®, Optimicron® Pulse, and Stat-Free® in the future.
 

The backward-compatibility of the filter elements

SUSTAINMICRON® will be available for all housing dimensions going forward and is backward-compatible and interchangeable with the previous ON; ON /-SFREE; ON/PS elements as a spare part element.

FAQ

Does the black outer sleeve have an effect/benefit?

In combination with the new and innovative mat design, the black fleece has a supportive function in terms of ESD protection. Thanks to the use of special bi-component fibers, the sleeve significantly contributes to the entire element's electrostatic optimization.

Does the new outer fleece sleeve act as a diffuser?

The new fleece material has the same properties as the previous perforated PET film. On the one hand, it provides upstream flow protection and on the other, it achieves uniform oil distribution over the entire filter element surface.

Can contamination and discharges that were previously clearly visible on the white PET film also be visible on the black fleece?

In practice, this aspect is of little relevance. Burns caused by ESD can also be seen very clearly on the new fleece sleeve. The extent of element contamination, i.e. the contamination on the mat, cannot be detected by looking at the outer sleeve with the naked eye. A laboratory test is generally required to detect contamination on the filter mat.

Which filter elements does SUSTAINMICRON<sup>®</sup> replace?

SUSTAINMICRON® combines three elements in one. It will replace Optimicron®, Optimicron® Pulse, and Stat-Free® going forward, as it prevents electrostatic discharges (ESD) and offers high bending stability and change stability. In extremely critical systems, Stat-X® will remain our premium element technology for avoiding ESD.
 

Does the fleece protect the element from contamination ingress from outside?

Like the PET film, the outer fleece sleeve also offers protection against contamination when handling the filter element. This protects the filter mat from contamination when the filter element is being installed.

Is the fleece more susceptible to damage?

The fleece was developed for the intended application and provides sufficient protection thanks to its robust structure.
 

Are the fleece’s flow characteristics different to those of the PET film with its oval perforations?

The fleece's high porosity ensures a uniform flow. As a result, it has been possible to improve upon the homogeneous flow characteristics expected with the PET film.

Is SUSTAINMICRON<sup>®</sup> backward-compatible with the existing housings?

SUSTAINMICRON® will be available for all housing dimensions going forward and is backward-compatible and interchangeable with the previous ON; ON /-SFREE; ON/PS elements as a spare part element.
 

How can the new element generation be recognized by the incoming goods department during the transition phase?

During the transition from Optimicron® to SUSTAINMICRON®, the element packaging will be labeled with a sticker seal. The QR code shown on the sticker leads to further information.
 

During the transition phase, will some deliveries contain mixtures of ON and SN elements?

Following the transition, there may be some temporary mixing of Optimicron®(ON) and SUSTAINMICRON®(SN) elements as stocks are converted. A note to this effect will be provided on the delivery notes, order confirmations, and offers.
