An overview of the accumulator types
Bladder accumulators
Bladder accumulators consist of a flexible elastomer bladder that operates in a pressure-tight vessel. The accumulator bladder separates the compressible gas from the medium in the hydraulic system. This type of accumulator is robust and ideal for applications with high flow rates and wide temperature ranges.
Piston accumulators
Piston accumulators use a movable piston equipped with a sealing system. Both of these together form the separation element between the hydraulic oil and gas. These hydraulic accumulators are characterized by their infinite pressure ratio and very large volumes. In critical installation situations, they can be adapted in length and diameter to the available installation space while maintaining the same gas volume.
Diaphragm accumulators
Diaphragm accumulators are equipped with a diaphragm as a separation element between the hydraulic fluid (e.g. mineral oil) and the gas cushion. This type of accumulator is very compact and especially suited to hydraulic applications with medium to high pressures. They are mostly used in mechanical engineering, mobile technology, and the automotive sector, where space requirements and weight play an important role.
